MICROBLADING PRE-CONSULTATION
MABISTA MICROBLADING CONSULTATION
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT CAREFULLY.
You are NOT eligible for this procedure if:
- you are under 18 years of age (even with parental permission)
- you are pregnant or nursing.
- you are prone to keloid scarring
- you are on blood thinners (such as Coumadin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, Vitamin E, Fish oil, etc) or have a bleeding disorder
- you have an autoimmune disorder that may increase your risk of infection/delayed healing
- you are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation within the past 6 months (we require a general doctor’s note to confirm eligibility)
- you have been on Accutane within 1 year of the procedure
- You have open wounds or sores in the brow area, nor any issues with wound healing
It is advice NOT to undergo Microblading if you fall into any of the category below due to increased risk for infection and/or poor healing. Please consult with your physician. In some cases, a general doctor’s note is required to confirm eligibility:
- Skin Complications – If you have skin which is prone to complications with eczema, psoriasis, keratosis pilaris and dermatitis (i.e., your skin is constantly flaking, itching, or aggravated), chances are your skin is in a constant state of unrest and shedding and is not suitable for tattooing and therefore won’t hold the pigment well.
- Chronic Conditions – The same goes for conditions like chronic acne and rosacea. The inherent nature of this type of skin causes easy bleeding, which once again means your skin will not retain the color very well and intended effect of microblading.
- Excessively oily skin can cause those tattooed hair strokes to blur together and give off an unwanted solid effect instead of a naturally feathered look.
- Moles or raised areas in or around the brow area
- Diabetic- Uncontrolled diabetes have poor wound healing due to less oxygen supply to tissues and fewer blood vessels. Elevated blood sugar makes you prone to infection as it lowers down your immune system. (unless well managed and doctor provides written release)
- Hemophilia, a heart condition, it is absolutely not recommended that you get any form of permanent make up done as this puts you in a high-risk position. People who have heart issues often are on medications that thin the blood which will cause excessive bleeding and a poor result with microblading.
- Organ transplant or any medical condition that put you at an increased risk for bleeding, infection, and/or delayed wound healing.
Medications that can affect treatment and healing:
- Thyroid medication (color fades more quickly)
- Cholesterol and blood pressure medications (poor color retention)
- Currently on pain medication or antibiotic.
Other factors that can affect healing:
- Chemical peels, fruit acids, microdermabrasion, laser treatments, mezzo therapy
- Retinoids (vit A) and glycolic acid, lactic, or other products that thin the skin. Must discontinue use 7 days prior to treatment and avoid using around the treated area for 30 days after during healing period.
- Latisse- Eyelash and eyebrow growth serum bring extra circulation (aka blood flow) to the area resulting in more growth of hair/lashes. Do not underestimate the power of these products! If you have been using Latisse or any other eyelash or eyebrow growth conditioners, the skin in that area is in a hypersensitive state and will bleed easily. Be mindful to discontinue using these at least 3-6 months before going in for a session otherwise you will instantly bleed profusely.
- Excessive use of facial powder and active ingredients in creams (anti-aging etc.) can cause premature fading.
- Sunlight, light therapy, and artificial light from tanning beds, solariums, lasers, or intense pulse light therapy will cause premature fading of your brows. Always protect them with sunscreen once healed.
- Scars- Retention of pigment is more difficult over scars. Please note, Microblading can go over flat scars only, not raised scars.
- If you had laser removal or previous work done by someone else, the treated area now has more scar tissue and can affect the outcome of the result. More treatments may be necessary to have the skin take the color.
- Vacationing- microblading is a tattoo and therefore is a mild injury to the skin which takes time to heal. If you are planning to go on a hot vacation involving sun, sweating, and swimming then make sure you give your skin two weeks to heal post microblading before showing off your newly microbladed brows on the beach and always protect with SPF on those new brows!
Risks Associated with Microblading
- Color retention varies on each client due to many factors. Therefore, microblading is typically a 2-steps process for first-time clients. For clients with difficult skin types, multiple sessions may be needed to achieve desired results at the expense of the client.
- Microblading breaks the protective barrier of your skin, therefore your chance of getting an infection will be increased. Following the exact aftercare procedure will prevent infection and increase your chance of optimal healed results.
- If you are not happy with your brows for whatever reason, the recommended process for removal is through laser tattoo removal or saline tattoo removal done by a certified professional at the expense of the client. This is a risk with any permanent makeup procedure, ANYWHERE you go. Your alternative is to NOT undergo permanent makeup and to continue using makeup instead. There is no guaranteed on how your brows will heal and Mabista LLC does not offer any refund.
What You Need to Know Prior to the Procedure
- DO NOT drink alcohol or caffeine at least 24 hours before the procedure to minimize bleeding.
- DO NOT take Advil or other blood thinners such as Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E and/or Ibuprofen 48 - 72 hours prior to your procedure (extra strength Tylenol can be taken if you have low pain tolerance).
- DO NOT exercise the day of the procedure and no excessive working out for 10 days after procedure.
- DO NOT wax or tint your brows less than 6 days before the procedure.
- DO NOT do anything harsh or exfoliating to your skin (chemical peel, laser etc.) prior to procedure.
- DO keep your skin and body well hydrated for optimal healed result.
- If you have recently tanned, this will affect the outcome of the healed color.
- Botox should be done 3 weeks before or 3 weeks after the procedure. Get Microblading done BEFORE you get botox so your muscles will be in a normal state of movement. Alternatively, if you regularly use botox, you will need to wait at 3 weeks after botox before doing microblading in order to allow the botox to settle in at its full effect.
- Retinoids (vit A) and glycolic acid, lactic, or other products that thin the skin. Must discontinue use 7 days prior to treatment and avoid using around the treated area for 30 days after during healing period.
- Chemical, laser peel retin A should not be performed 6 weeks before the procedure.
- Please note that you will be more sensitive during your menstrual cycle.
What to Expect the Day of the Procedure
Microblading/PMU procedure normally require 2 appointments for desired results. The first appointment is about structure, design, and building hair-strokes. The second appointment, between 30 – 60 days later, is to see how your skin takes the pigment and to go over any faded strokes to perfect your result even more.
The first step is brow mapping where a caliper will be used to measure out 6 points on the brows according to your natural facial features. The goal is to make your brows more symmetrical and balanced. Once the pencil outline is done, you will get to see your new shape and approve to the design before your artist begins the microblading process. The artist will perform the first pass of hairstrokes on the brows without any numbing to ensure the best color retention and crisp strokes. After the first pass, the artist will use Sustaine Face and Body Blue Gel anesthetic for the rest of the procedure to help ease the discomfort.
Pre-Numbing prior to the first pass of microblading has been shown to decrease color retention and crispness in strokes, therefore Mabista LLC do not typically numb prior to procedure. However, you can choose to add Pre-Numbing with the understanding that it has the potential to affect retention.
Once the 1st session is done, you will come back for the perfecting session between 30 – 60 days from initial appointment. The goal of this second appointment is to go over any faded strokes and to make any necessary adjustments to achieve more symmetry and fullness to complete the brows.
***IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT THE HUMAN FACE IS ASYMMETRICAL, THEREFORE EVERY EFFORT WILL BE MADE TO CREATE SYMMETRY DURING MICROBLADING. HOWEVER, DUE TO FREE STROKE NATURE OF MICROBLADING AND ASSYMETRICAL NATURE OF THE HUMAN FACE, RESULTS MAY NEVER MATCH 100% FROM SIDE TO SIDE.
TOPICAL ANESTHETIC ADVICE
- Allergic reaction: This can occur from any anesthetics used during procedure. If you do suffer from an allergic reaction, you should contact your doctor immediately. Allergic reaction may show through redness, swelling, rash, blistering, dryness, or any other symptoms associated with an allergic reaction.
- Numbness: Mabista LLC cannot accept responsibility if the area to be treated does not respond to the numbing cream/gel. Every individual is different according to skin type.
- Procedure: For microblading/PMU procedures a numbing cream/gel is used. It will be removed prior to treatment. As A result of the treatment, combined with the use of anesthetic you can expect to experience some redness/swelling that can last 1-4 days. It is very important to follow your post procedure advice/after care for ultimate results.
What to Expect After the Procedure
Immediately following your procedure, your new brows will appear to be darker, bolder in color and shape, and more sharply defined. You may feel that your brows are too dark and thick. Over the next 2-3 days, your brows will appear even darker and thicker as the ink on the surface dried up and flakes begin to form. Let the flakes naturally fall off. Do not pick or peel. It may take up to 14 days for flaking of the brows to be over. Following the aftercare steps will decrease the flaking process (it’s normal to not get them at all!). Your brows will become lighter in color, thinner in shape and more natural look as healing progresses. Patience is key!
Maintain facial hygiene by using mild antibacterial facial soap and water and gently cleanse your eyebrows for 10-15 second. Try NOT to get your eyebrows wet much as possible or apply any kind of products (except for the recommended ointment) for at least 10 days after procedure. NO makeup on the area for at least 2 weeks. NO direct sun exposure until your brows are fully healed after at least 30 days (it is recommended to use sunscreen to protect them).
Aftercare: Touch ups
You will need to return for your touch up treatment after 6-8 weeks from your first procedure. To avoid additional charges, please give a minimum of 72 hours for any cancelled appointments. Everyone’s skin heals differently, and most clients develop patchy areas or the appearance of fading after the first treatment. It is important to understand that this is a two part process and the second Touch Up Treatment will complete the procedure and, after healing, you will see the finished result. PLEASE BE PATIENT AND DON’T PANIC!
Aftercare: IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Right after the procedure, I will put protective balm over the treated area in order to protect the newly opened layer of epidermis from dust and bacteria getting into your skin when you walk out of the office. Within couple of hours, skin starts natural regeneration process; therefore, there is no need to apply layer of balm unless it is necessary. Often eyebrows appear a little darker right after the procedure; however, during the healing process it tends to fade a bit. Fading usually starts after 7 days of the procedure, it happens because skin creates a protective layer that will eventually reappear in 3-4 weeks. The full results can be seen after approximately 25-30days after procedure. Depending on healing process, aftercare, and final result. Many clients might need a short touch up in a month after initial appointment. Microblading is safe when performed. But after proper aftercare is extremely important to ensure fast recovery and desire effect.
Post Treatment Care:
- Use baby wipes every 2-3 hours until the end of your day.
- Before you go to bed, apply a very thin layer of A&D ointment.
- Apply A&D two times a day. For oily skin, please apply very thin layer
- In the next 7 days, maintain facial hygiene and apply A&D after washing your face or taking shower. Please try not to get your eyebrows wet as much as possible.
- Make sure to wash your eyebrows gently (patting motion, not rubbing) morning and night with water and antibacterial soap such as Dial or CETAPHIL cleanser. With a very light touch, use your fingertips to gently cleanse the eyebrows for 10-15 seconds.
- A&D ointment can be used on all skin types due to its natural active component that regulate oiling.
For the first 7 days, please avoid:
- All creams (except for the protective one)
- All make-up (foundation) in the eyebrow area
- Avoid workouts that involve a lot of sweating for the next 48 hours after procedure
- Sauna
- Facial massage and steaming – inhalation
- Facial/ Eyebrow Waxing
IN THE NEXT 30 DAYS, PLEASE AVOID
- Sunbathing/Tanning
- Solarium- a glass-enclosed porch or room
- Light therapies
- Chemical peels
- Fruit acids (i.e., Vitamin C)
- Retinol/anti-aging cream
- Microdermabrasion
- Creams that contain regeneration factors
- Laser treatment over the treated area (i.e. Fraxel Laser, IPL) – because they can destroy the pigment and cause burns
- Antibiotics and hormonal therapy
